The Suzuki School

The Suzuki School of Houston was founded in 1973 by Judy Offman to provide musical training for children according to the Talent Education Philosophy. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's Talent Education Philosophy is also known as The Mother Tongue Method. The Suzuki School of Houston is comprised of violinists and violists from The Greater Houston Area ranging in age from three to fourteen years. To further your understanding why we believe that three years of age is a perfect age to start, please click on “Why Start A Child At An Early Age?.

Students are accepted to the Suzuki School of Houston based on their desire to learn and a strong commitment of their parents. For further explaination see “So You Want To Become A Suzuki Parent?”.

These students exude self-confidence as demonstrated through their large repertoire of memorized music acquired through both listening skills and well-developed reading skills.

The Suzuki Method is based on the belief that musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability that can be developed. Any child can develop musical ability. The potential of every child is unlimited. Children learn music in the same way that they learn to speak - by imitating those around them, listening to good examples, and receiving encouragement and support.
